Mockup for Augmented Reality app

The Problem

For my Advanced Interaction Design class, we were tasked with designing an app for the Apple Vision Pro Goggles. I decided to create an app that could aid in desensitization to phobias through exposure therapy.

There are limited options for people to make progress towards getting over their phobias.

The goal of the app is to provide a safe and accessible exposure therapy experience for people suffering from mild to moderate phobias.

App Goals

  • Increase awareness of exposure therapy
  • Create an affordable option for people to receive exposure therapy at home
  • Be able to track progress and produce quantifiable data on the user’s progress

User Goals

  • Receive personalized exposure therapy sessions in a safe and controlled manner
  • Be able to track progress over time
  • Increase the amount of time they can exist with the phobia and become desensitized to their phobia(s) over time

3D Persona

After I defined the problem and goals, I created a 3D person of who a typical user would be.

User Interviews

I conducted interviews with potential users of the app to learn more about their knowledge and experience with the subject matter.

Journey Map

I created a step-by-step journey map of the ideal experience a user will have while using the app.

Preliminary Sketches

After I created the journey map, I started on initial sketches for the app interface and flow. I sketched the foreground view, front-facing view, and wrote down what visuals, movements, and sounds would be included.

High-Fidelity Designs

Final Design Solution Screen 1
Dashboard

My final solution was designed on Figma and uses Apple’s Design System for fonts and components.

When the user opens the app, they land on this dashboard screen, where they see their recent stats, previous sessions, and start their next session.

Final Design Solution Screen 2
Session Overview

When the user starts a session, they are provided with an overview of what the session will entail. The overview includes the length of the session, intensity level, and tasks.

Final Design Solution Screen 3
Breathing Exercise

Before the session begins, there will be a quick breathing exercise to help the user mentally prepare.

Final Design Solution Screen 4
Exposure

This example shows a user with germaphobia. Here, the user is simply exposed to the phobia.

Task

Now the user has moved into the task-based portion of the session. Here, they are prompted to complete a task related to the phobia.

Pause Screen

If the user needs to take a break, they can hit the pause button at any time. The progress bar will be the first thing they see as a motivator to complete the session.

Instenity Selector

If needed, the user can change the intensity level of the session while in the pause menu.

Final Design Solution Screen 8
Reflection

Once the session is completed, the user has the option to write or dictate a reflection.

Final Design Solution Screen 8
Progress

Before returning to the dashboard, the user is shown their stats from the session as well as stats from previous sessions and overall progress.
